Sexuality is a big category that includes A LOT of diversity within it!
You may identify with allosexual or asexual identities.
There are monosexual identities, desires, and expressions (heterosexual, gay, lesbian, etc.),
as well as non-monosexual identities, desires, and expressions (bisexual, pansexual, omnisexual,etc.).
Additionally, human experience sometimes isn’t so binary as allosexual vs. asexual or monosexual vs. non-monosexual.
For example, you could be asexual and biromantic.
Regardless of your identity, desire, or expression, growing up in an allosexual heterosexual world can be hard when you don’t identify or feel that way! There have been many areas where things have improved, such as marriage equality. But sadly, that doesn’t mean that bigotry isn’t alive and well. Heterosexual privilege still impacts your everyday life if you are gay, lesbian, or queer and only attracted to one sex or gender.
Monosexual privilege may affect your experience if you are bisexual, pansexual, or queer and attracted to more than one sex or gender.
Allosexual privilege impacts people on the asexual and aromantic spectrums.
On top of it all, if you have other intersecting identities (race, ability, class, gender, etc.), you may have to deal with exponentially more challenges.
Psychotherapy can help you work through anger around privilege and shame around identity to find more authenticity and live a life full of integrity.
