The many different sexual identities within the LGBQ+ community keep growing as we find better ways to describe our unique experiences as people who aren’t straight. At Out Couch Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, we understand that gender and sexuality are distinct and valuable parts of what make you, you.  Whether you identify as:

  • Gay
  • Lesbian
  • Same gender loving
  • Queer
  • Pansexual
  • Bisexual
  • Polysexual
  • Omnisexual
  • Asexual
  • Aromantic
  • Questioning/exploring
  • Or another micro label that describes your sexuality

As an LGBQ+ person, you may have experienced:

  • People ignoring, disbelieving, or trying to change your sexual identity
  • Feeling afraid or uncomfortable about being anything other than straight
  • Picking up negative beliefs about your sexuality from your family, community, or society
  • Having mixed or confusing feelings about being seen as straight
  • Being scared of getting hurt, judged, or treated unfairly because of your sexuality
  • Feeling pushed by others to hide who you really are
  • Pretending to be straight so you can fit in or avoid trouble

Therapy with a provider who is trained in serving clients with diverse sexual identities can help you address these issues, or any other life stressors you may currently be facing. Be that through individual work, couples or relationship therapy, or group work.  We currently have one groups:

When the world feels so unsafe, you can’t even find a calm place in your mind and body affirming therapy can give you:

  • A private space to talk about and explore your sexuality
  • A therapist who works to understand and relate to your life experiences
  • Increased confidence about who you are and your sexual identity
  • Resilience to help you feel more joy, hope, and connection during hard times
  • Healthier ways to deal with harassment and discrimination in your relationships, workplace, or greater community.

If you’ve been feeling alone, scared, or angry, it may be time to ask for help. Affirmative therapy cannot fix the world around you, but it can support you in creating the world you want to inhabit. Therapy with an LGBQ+ affirmative provider can help you make informed and empowered choices for yourself and your loved ones.
